“The first time I really met Peggy was on my honeymoon. I was 17 and George had just turned 19. We flew to Miami and, by the time we got out of the taxi, it was 1:00 in the morning. Banjo greeted us, screaming,  ‘Where the hell have you been?’ I couldn’t figure out who this guy was. He took us to our room and got the bellhop to get our bags. Banjo was yelling, taking over. I still couldn’t figure out who the hell this Banjo guy was. George kept whispering, ‘It’s Banj… that’s Banj, that’s the way he is.’ The next day, we planned to go out to dinner. Banjo picks us up in his Cadillac and drives us to his house. He said we had to go have macaroni. I saw this blonde woman in the kitchen making sauce. It just didn’t go, she didn’t look like any of them back at home, but she made me feel right at home. She was such a host. Banjo was so loud, but she always kept her cool. With Aunt Peg, there is never any problems. Whenever we come into town, she’s the one we call.”  – Gail DeMartin

“Peggy’s just the best. We worked at St. Joe’s together and became good friends. Pauline, Linda, Peggy, and I would go to piano bars together and Linda and I were amazed at the stamina of these two women. There was no way we could ever keep up with the two of them. Peggy has always been so special to me. She is something else, I tell you. So active and happy all the time. She is totally alive, totally positive, and the greatest storyteller. Peggy is a real original.”  – Wendy Juleff

Aunt Olive

“My best memory is going swimming with Sally, Roberta, and Evelyn – Bob took us down to the Elk’s Picnic Grounds. It was a beautiful day and we all swam. Evelyn and Roberta were so cute with their heads full of curls. They just love to swim. It was a real treat back then.”  – Aunt Olive

“She is an example of what a hero is… the brilliant way she has handled her bouts with cancer. I still can’t get over her going out to karaoke singing the day she found out she had cancer. She is a real inspiration to us all.” – Maria Citron

“She’s incredible. She is full of wisdom, she has so much spirit. I’ve never seen another person like her. She is one of a kind. You just don’t find people out there like Peggy, ever.

When I moved here I assumed I knew who’d help me if I needed rescued. Out of everyone, she helped me the most, by far! I didn’t expect it from her, she was so warm. She gave me confidence in myself, she taught me how to have the best attitude. She put me up, got me a job, and the talks… she is so wonderful. Peggy is a very special person, no one can walk in her shoes.”  -Theresa Giangregerio

“Peggy welcomed me instantly. In that time, I could barely speak English and whenever I had to meet a new person, my sense of insecurity was immense, but with her from the first moment there was a great energy. Her charisma is with no doubt some natural treasure and she certainly knows how to make people feel good just by being herself. This was more or less 18 years ago and since then I have kept inside of myself a lot of happiness for knowing her. Her laugh, her way of talking to people, and her positive vibration stay with the ones that cross her path.” – Lucia Magalhaes

“I went to California on vacation, and I mentioned to Aunt Peggy that I couldn’t wait to get home. She asked me, ‘Aren’t you having a good time?’ I said no, I’m having a great time, I just miss sauce. Before I knew it, Aunt Peggy had sauce cooking with meatballs. She’d do anything to make you feel at home.” – Chris McLay

“I always joke with Peggy about being our travel agent. I remember calling her up the first time to see if she would drive us up the coast. Of course she said yes because she’s always up for an adventure. I remember one time we had been driving for a very long time and I was sitting in the front seat. I leaned over and whispered to Peggy, ‘I think we’re lost.’ Peg said, ‘I thing so too, but don’t tell anyone.’ She is such a fantastic person. After one of our trips, we were going to stay in a hotel, but Peggy wouldn’t have it. She said, ‘the hell you are!’ We all piled in her house and it was like Camp Peggy. We had so many laughs. She has such a big heart.”  – Ellie Capelli

“A wonderfully spirited, youthful minded, family and friend loving woman. I had the privileged opportunity to be connected to Peggy thirty years ago, when her daughter Toni Ann became my best friend. Best friend then as a 16 year old and best friend to this day. Peggy was always an active participant of our growing up. She was the mother not only to her own three children, but anyone else who had the fortunate experience to be among the Celentano children’s circle of friends. My most cherished memory of Peg was when we shared a room in Cambria for Andy’s wedding. We took many walks down memory lane that weekend and I came away with a renewed respect and love for this dynamic person. Peggy, always laughing, always kind, and I hope, always dancing.”   – Joanne Fothergil

“It seems like whenever Peggy is a part of the night, it’s a good time. She brings the life to the party. Peggy is such a great person who also happens to know how to have a great time.” – Carl Giangregerio
