“The first time I really met Peggy was on my honeymoon. I was 17 and George had just turned 19. We flew to Miami and, by the time we got out of the taxi, it was 1:00 in the morning. Banjo greeted us, screaming,  ‘Where the hell have you been?’ I couldn’t figure out who this guy was. He took us to our room and got the bellhop to get our bags. Banjo was yelling, taking over. I still couldn’t figure out who the hell this Banjo guy was. George kept whispering, ‘It’s Banj… that’s Banj, that’s the way he is.’ The next day, we planned to go out to dinner. Banjo picks us up in his Cadillac and drives us to his house. He said we had to go have macaroni. I saw this blonde woman in the kitchen making sauce. It just didn’t go, she didn’t look like any of them back at home, but she made me feel right at home. She was such a host. Banjo was so loud, but she always kept her cool. With Aunt Peg, there is never any problems. Whenever we come into town, she’s the one we call.”  – Gail DeMartin
